As much as we are watching our children to see what they do with thier lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours.

Scout Trip to C'ville

We recently atteneded a scout family fun day in Charlottesville.  First we visited the University of Virginia Medical center helicopter, known as Pegasus.  I think the Dads in the group enjoyed this as much as the kids.  It was neat to be on the tarmac, learn about the chopper,  check out the hanger and sit in the pilot seat.  It was super cool!  At the end of our tour they received a call to head out and we watched the helicopter take off!

Following the Pegasus tour,  we headed to Carter Mountain Orchard for apple picking, delicious apple donuts and a hay ride. It was the perfect way to kick off Fall.

Crusin' Around Our Hood

The girls love to be active.  Will (aka Daddy) is now able to enjoy riding his bike next to the girls, rather than pulling them behind the bike in a trailer.   Recently, the girls have asked to bike after dinner as a family.  I love to see my crew ride off together into the sunset.  Plus, they make perfect exercise partners while I run along the road.  The girls are getting the hang of hand brakes on the bike.  They are learning to follow the rules of the road to be safe while having fun! Ride on!!!

Discovering Pre-K

Sophia enjoyed an extra week of summer at home with Mom while Isabella started first grade.  Sophia did not ask when she was going to school, rather she stated "I don't want to go to school, I just want to stay home".   We went to pre-school to meet her teachers and Sophia had a baby doll and blanket in tow.  Sophia stayed close to my side and was gripping tight on my hand.  Once Sophia discovered a play kitchen she warmed up to the idea of school.  15 minutes later she was wearing an apron and serving pretend food to her classmates.

On Sophia's first day of pre-K we snapped a few photos before heading to class. Its hard to believe that this is our last year in preschool! Time sure does go by fast with little ones around.

Sophia had a great first week at school and even went to the treasure box for good behavior!  We are proud of Sophia and love watching her grow.  I am going to treasure this last year of preschool and the time I get to spend with Sophia.

Fabulous First Grade

Summer was great and we are sad to see it go.  Now we have the excitement of back to school...meeting new teachers, new friends and a stash of fresh school supplies.  I still get excited about back to school supplies, especially the brand new box of Crayola Crayons.  Isabella is starting first grade this year and looks forward to doing lots of math!

Isabella is happy to be in school. She LOVES going to school and wakes up eager to start the day.  Isabella remarked that first grade is "AWESOME!"    It was a fabulous first week of first grade!  To top off the fun Isabella learned how to ride a bike without training wheels yesterday.

Last Day of Summer Vacation

We spent the last day of summer break sending summer out with a splash! These girls love the pool and they love their Daddy too!

Yorktown

Early in October 1781 French-American forces closed their grip on the besieged British army in Yorktown and bombarded the townspeople with their combined artillery.  Incessant shellfire drove townspeople to seek shelter under this bluff and forced the British commander, Lord Cornwallis, to move his headquarters to a nearby cave.

The photo below is the cave where the townspeople sought shelter.

Our trip to Yorktown was prompted by Isabella remarking that summer is not complete without dipping her toes in the sand.  Thankfully friends mentioned this beach to us that was only an hour away.  Upon arriving at the beach the girls were eager to swim.  The water felt great!  The girls loved floating and swimming in the calm water.  We all enjoyed the feel of the sand on our feet and the sun on our backs.  It was a fun day!

Happy Girls

After spending most of the day at the waterfront in Yorktown we decided to take the free trolley ride. We wanted to check out the Junior Ranger program at the state park.  While we were there we enjoyed the band performing, watched a movie and the girls earned their first Junior Ranger badge.  The girls were sworn in by a park ranger and after completing their paperwork had to explain what they learned.  It was a great experience that sparked the girls interested in history.
